The Moomins are a family of white, round fairy-tale characters with large snouts that make them resemble the hippopotamus. However, despite this resemblance, the Moomin family are kind trolls. They live a happy and adventurous life in the wooded Moominvalley, which is bordered on one side by the Lonely Mountains and on the other by the sea.

Along the Moomins, you meet all kinds of creatures, big and tiny, joyous and grumpy, charming and odd, and sometimes even a bit scary.

However fantastical and peculiar occurrences and adventures come their way, their positive and open-minded take on life resolves everything. That's the essence of Moomin philosophy.

The Moomins (Swedish: mumintrollen) are the central characters in a series of novels, short stories, and a comic strip by Finnish writer and illustrator Tove Jansson, originally published in Swedish by Schildts in Finland. 

In all, nine books were released in the series, together with five picture books and a comic strip being released between 1945 and 1993.

The Moomins have since been the basis for numerous television series, films and even two theme parks: one called Moomin World in Naantali, Finland, and another Akebono Children's Forest Park in Hannō, Saitama, Japan.
